China may soon be home to a giant factory churning out copies of animal species. A Chinese biotechnology firm hopes to build the world’s largest animal cloning factory in the northern city of Tianjin.

Among the animals expected to be cloned are Japanese cows (to lower the price of beef), as well as horses and other large animals that would serve as ‘disease models’ to help research cures for human diseases. Several cloning factories are already in operation around the world, including one in Shenzhen that is able to clone 500 pigs every year. Read more: qz.com
