A huge national park has been planned for the cradle of China’s three largest rivers. The 30,000-square-kilometre park would cover an area roughly the size of Belgium in Qinghai province, where the country’s three largest rivers - the Yangtze, Yellow and Mekong - originate. At 4000 metres in altitude, the region includes a rare combination of glaciers and grasslands, and is home to many protected wildlife species.
