A man from Terrace, BC, had to miss a flight after his artificial hip set off the metal detector and the all-female security staff refused to give him a pat-down.

Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) policy requires physical searches to be completed by security staff of the same gender as the passenger. The security agent explained to Robert Hart that there were no male agents available, and he would have to book another flight. Hart says he was told the small regional airport only has two male screeners and both were off duty. His trip was delayed nine hours. CATSA has apologized for the incident, saying there are exceptions to the policy and Hart should’ve been allowed to board the flight. Read more: cbc.ca
