Officials in Copenhagen have revealed that discarded cigarette butts account for a staggering 80 percent of the rubbish cleared from the city's streets, with each butt costing two kronor to clean up. The City of Copenhagen say that the issue has worsened since stricter anti-smoking laws were introduced in 2007 but they acknowledged that, following the smoking ban, they didn't do enough to ensure smokers had enough bins. The council will now introduce 400 new ashtrays across the city to help combat the problem, and are encouraging cafes, restaurants and bars to do the same. Read more: thelocal.dk
