In anticipation of large crowds during China’s so-called ‘Golden Week’ of travel, Beijing has installed hundreds of portable toilets in Tian’anmen Square.
China’s National Day, which falls on 1 October, is accompanied by a week-long national holiday during which millions of Chinese travel home or on vacation, including hundreds of thousands who visit the capital. In addition to the porta-potties, Chinese authorities have stepped up security and added daily visitor caps at major sights like the Forbidden City and the Bund in Shanghai.
