The southeastern states of Australia are in for a cold spell this weekend heading north from New Zealand via Tasmania, Victoria and NSW.

Snow will fall to 500m and may reach mountains as far north as Queensland. The last time Australia had such a large spread of snowfall was in May 2000, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. Anyone planning outdoors activities over the weekend, such as hiking, camping, boating and skiing, have been advised to keep an eye on weather warnings and plan for cold conditions.
