A town near Buenos Aires in Argentina has become the first in the country to place a ban on beauty competitions. The council of Chivilcoy said the competitions, which have a rich history in Latin America, are sexist and encourage an obsession with physical beauty. Instead of the competitions the town has said they will be awarding prizes that recognise achievements such as volunteering. Read more: bbc.com
