Archaeologists have discovered Moscow’s oldest road. It’s located in the central Zaryadie district between the Kitai-Gorod metro station and the Kremlin, which is thought to be the oldest part of the Russian capital.
The road, known as Velikaya (meaning ‘the large one’), connected the old Kremlin and a wharf on the Moscow River. It consists of several layers, and the deepest layers are believed to date from the 12th century. So far most of the 17th-century layer has been unearthed, as well as some parts of the 15th-century layer. Read more: themoscowtimes.com
