Aberdeen has been awarded the title of ‘most dismal town in Scotland’ by an architecture magazine. According to Urban Realm magazine, who have handed out the prize since 2000, Aberdeen is a ‘great city’ with ‘enviable financial clout’ but it has become the ‘poor relation of the Scottish cities’, beaten by the likes of Dundee. Planning issues around various new developments and Aberdeen’s failure to make the shortlist for 2017 City of Culture are cited as reasons. Aberdeen City Council said it was an ambitious city with some of the finest buildings in Scotland and a ‘magnificent seafront’. Read more: bbc.co.uk
