A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for criticising the king of Thailand on Facebook.

Pongsak Sriboonpeng, 48, was convicted of the crime of lèse-majesté, which carries a 15-year prison sentence for each offence. A number of foreign travellers have been prosecuted for criticising the royal family, most famously Swiss national Oliver Jufer, who was sentenced to 10 years for defacing a poster of the king in 2007, before being pardoned and deported.
