If you need an extra incentive to take a vacation in the next few months, the central coast city of San Luis Obispo in California is offering 500 winter tourists a $100 (€89) voucher just to come and visit for two nights up until 31 March.
San Luis Obispo is located midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and it’s a popular overnight stop for those road-tripping along Highway 1. It’s a low-key town that has an enviably high quality of life – it was featured on Oprah after it was named the happiest city in the US. One of its attractions is that visitors can check out and make their own mark on its famous pedestrian walkway, Bubblegum Alley, which contains approximately two million pieces of chewed bubblegum.
Nestled at the base of the Santa Lucia foothills, San Luis Obispo is near the Edna Valley wineries, which will appeal to wine-lovers. If beer is more your thing, the SLO Craft Beer Festival runs from 24 to 25 February, and it celebrates brewers of craft beer and presents special educational beer seminars. Other attractions to explore include the 18th century Spanish mission, Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, the Children’s Museum, and Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market.
San Luis Obispo has many great culinary, cultural and outdoor events happening this winter. There is the Festival Mozaic WinterMezzo Chamber Music Series running over two weekends – 28 to 29 January and 24 to 26 February. Every Friday evening, with the exception of the first Friday of every month, the History Center Museum will remain open for an additional five hours for its Art After Dark programme.
The $100 offer applies to the first 500 new bookings made for two-night stays up to 31 March, with blackout dates of 16 and 17 February, in any San Luis Obispo hotel booked through the city’s official website. For further information, see here.
