Situated on the coastal cliff tops of Karioitahi Beach on the west coast of Auckland, Castaways Resort offers different packages at multiple sites, with one, two and three-night couples stays available at either ocean or native bush settings. Each couple’s Glam Camp features an en-suite, kitchen, king sized bed and central heating. The coastal sites include outdoor baths set into the landscape offering views of the Tasman Sea, while the bush stay sees guests sleeping in a special house built into a totara tree, where they can listen to the sounds of native birds. Running throughout all seasons, the experiences include gourmet dinner and breakfast packs that come with cooking instructions, snacks and a bottle of wine.

“We wanted to create a camping spot where people could enjoy being outdoors but be comfortable too. We want to inspire people to get in touch with nature and create an experience that does exactly that but without having to give up the luxury side of a five-star hotel. Guests are met with a luxury tent where everything has been carefully thought out. They absolutely love our sunken outdoor baths, where they can sip wine and watch spectacular sunsets,” Serena Shine, Glam Camping Manager at Castaways Resort told Lonely Planet Travel News.

A village group camping experience with the capability of sleeping up to 48 guests is also available at a secluded village at the cliff tops, available for rent for weddings and other special events. On site facilities include an outside bar, a sheltered stone fire pit, a wood fired pizza oven, a lounging area with plasma television and a dining area with views of the crashing waves.

Prices start from US$430 (NZ$300) per night.
