Don’t have a World Cup team to support? Here's how to find your ideal team and fly to support them

It may seem that soccer fans in the USA don’t have a lot to cheer for this summer with their absence from the 2018 World Cup kicking off in Russia on 14 June. To help cheer up bereft fans, travel search engine Kayak has designed a new tool to help you find a new team and perhaps even win a vacation too.

The Kayak Matchmaker is an online tool that asks you questions about where you want to celebrate your adopted team’s presumed win, what colours you want to pack, your preferred temperature, food, fan culture and whether you’d prefer to cheer for an underdog or a firm favourite to go far in the tournament.

A little match-making magic happens and you have your perfect World Cup destination. Once revealed, you’ll have the option to search flights to there to get the best deal and a chance to enter to win a trip there.

Kayak’s tool to help you “find a new fandom” was sparked by research they conducted that showed that one in seven Americans were planning to take a sports-related vacation this year. They also crunched the numbers on interest on travelling to Russia which they found was 61% lower among US travellers than the 2014 games in Brazil which the US was part of.

If you are a soccer fan who’s decided to make the journey, either to support your team or perhaps just to soak up the atmosphere, we’ve created a quick travel guide to everything you need to know about 2018 World Cup cities in Russia.
