Let’s be honest, this was bound to happen at some stage. Instagram, the social media giant that’s the hub of selfies, inspirational quotes and cuisine culture has announced a new feature that caters to foodies.
The company this month launched new tools for businesses, allowing users to do things like book a table or create an order without leaving the social network. A favourite platform for food lovers that has millions of users, it’s no wonder that Instagram is jumping on to get a slice of the market. The new updates mean that businesses will be able to upgrade their profile pages to display an “action button” to book which will open up a browser within Instagram where users will complete the process.
The Facebook-owned social media is partnering with popular third-party companies that will streamline the orders and reservations. Currently, brands on board include Eatstreet, OpenTable, ChowNow and Yelp Reservations. While currently this function is primarily based in the US, the company hopes to expand internationally soon. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself ogling endlessly online, and see an even bigger influx of food and drink shots in your timeline.
“Some of these partners are also available for an action button on Facebook Pages; we recommend relevant businesses also look to enable there,” they add. According to Instagram, more than 200 million daily active users visit a business profile each day. Business on Instagram was launched a few years ago when it upped its game and switched from just personal profiles to include companies.
