If you have a penchant for life’s sweeter side and the sight of cakes, macarons, donuts and eclairs makes your day, tours that showcase the best of London’s cakes and confectionery may tickle your taste buds.
You can spend a morning or afternoon walking from neighbourhood bakery to independent café to artisanal chocolatier and indulging in all of their best products during the tours, while getting the local stories and history from your guide.
Sweet Tooth Tours was founded by pastry chef, Lynne Staartjes, while she was studying Le Cordon Bleu, as she wanted to combine her passions for desserts, London, travel and meeting new people. She has travelled extensively throughout all seven continents and is always on the lookout for pastry trends and new flavours. Sugar needs to be enjoyed in moderation and Lynne believes in indulging in what’s really worth it.
What you enjoy on the tour you won’t be able to find at a supermarket or department store, and as well as the regular tours on offer, she offers private and bespoke tours. Each regular tour has a maximum of six participants and includes tasting samples of the signature item of each café or shop, a hot drink and a bottle of water.
All can be enjoyed during the tour or you can take them away with you, and it is recommended that that you eat something savoury before the tours to prevent a full sugar rush.
A new tour has been launched in Soho, and it focuses on dessert trends. It lasts approximately 2.5 hours and includes a minimum of five stops with food at each one. The Soho tour usually runs on Wednesdays and select Saturdays at 11am.
