Are the trailers for a new Crocodile Dundee movie a marketing stunt for Tourism Australia?

People are questioning whether two trailers released to support a supposed new Crocodile Dundee movie are actually a marketing stunt for Tourism Australia? Lending weight to the argument that the trailers are genuine film teasers for ‘Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home’ is the fact that they have been produced by film production company, Rimfire Films, which produced the original Crocodile Dundee movie in 1986 and Crocodile Dundee II in 1987.

However, suspicions have been raised because Australian actor Chris Hemsworth stars in the trailers as Wally Jr., but there hasn’t been a peep from the high-profile actor about filming to date and he happens to be an ambassador for Tourism Australia. American actor, Danny McBride, is down as playing Dundee, the iconic Australian hero’s son, but again, there hasn’t been a word about the popular Thor actor’s involvement up to now. In the age where social media’s ubiquitous cameras have turned everyone into roving reporters, it seems strange that people were unaware that a full-length feature film was filming in Australia, given that movies take months to shoot and involve hundreds of people.

The Brisbane Times grew suspicious, particularly as it noted that the director listed on the trailer is Steve Rogers, an award-winning director who is best known for his work on commercials for Old Spice, Nike, and Southern Comfort. In the course of its investigation, industry sources told the paper that the trailers are part of a US ad campaign orchestrated by Tourism Australia, and the full advert is set to air during the Super Bowl on Sunday 4 February.

Screen Australia is listed as the film’s producer on promotional artwork, and it has declined to comment on the speculation, although it doesn’t list the project on its upcoming schedule. All will be revealed during the Super Bowl, of course, but it the meantime, Australia is looking fantastic in the trailers, which will surely help to whet appetites worldwide for visiting there.
