A brand new development has been announced for Times Square in New York that will afford visitors the opportunity to stay in a luxury hotel that is wrapped in a 17,000-square-foot high resolution LED screen.
Due to launch next year, the accommodation comes from Marriot Edition Hotels, and will be part of 20 Times Square, the 350,000-square-foot, 40-story development that also includes a 76,000-square-foot-retail space. Located at 701 Seventh Avenue on the corner of 47th Street, the hotel will include 452 rooms with four levels of public space, as well as a gigantic performance venue, a meeting studio, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and a lobby lounge at check in level. A number of food and drink outlets and a signature restaurant will lead out onto a beer garden and event deck overlooking Times Square.
One of the most unique aspects of the 20 Times Square site is the wrap-around digital advertising LED screen manufactured by Sansi North America. Designed to utilize an eight-millimetre pixel pitch, it will become the highest resolution exterior LED screen ever seen in Times Square. Built to accommodate the next generation of video content, including 8K, the screen will offer a quality that is approximately 16 times better than full HD. The project also includes a hotel blade sign, which will extend approximately 100 feet high.
The National Football League is also due to take up a dedicated area within the development, along with Cirque du Soleil in an effort to create a dynamic, interactive exhibit, while the Hershey Company will reportedly be opening a flagship store at the base of the site’s hotel.
