This adventurous cruise has a strictly enforced age limit - no one over 45 is allowed

A US company has launched a new series of river cruises that specifically cater for 21 – 45-year-olds, with ID required to take part in experiences such as on-board yoga, silent disco parties, impressionist painting and wine classes and mixology lessons.

Called U by Uniworld, the new brand aims to offer “immersive, fun and adventurous travel” by hosting a range of customised activities on different routes. The first ship, called The B, made its maiden voyage this month, launching from Paris. Taking guests along the Seine, inaugural events included a drum circle “aimed at creating a spiritual energy on-board”, a champagne reception on the top deck and a renaming ceremony where guests released biodegradable lanterns. Due to launch fully in April 2018, the company will operate trips with nine itineraries on the Seine, Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers, among two renovated ships with a maximum capacity of 120 passengers.

The B was renamed following renovations to Uniworld’s River Baroness ship, and offers a range of sleeping options including balcony bedrooms, studios and triple occupancy rooms, all of which have waterfront views and come equipped with built-in Bluetooth speakers. The ship also has two rooftop venues, a spa, communal tables for dining, and will offer farm-to-table cuisine. “We’re thrilled to make history with the launch and introduce a whole new generation to river cruising,” said Ellen Bettridge, President & CEO of Uniworld. “It’s very exciting to see this vision come to life and to have such influential, well-travelled young people on-board to experience it for the first time.”

Addressing the strictly-enforced age limitations for the cruises, the company said that the decision was made to “provide the best possible product to our guests, with a brand identity and integrity that our U guests will connect with”. Passengers wishing to travel on any of the routes are required to be between the ages of 21 and 45 on the first day of the cruise, and will be required to submit a copy of their passport or government issued ID at the time of payment, and ages will be verified at that time and at the time of embarkation. The company also offers WhatsApp and email updates for internal communication with guests, with menus at bars and restaurants being displayed on screens.
