In a town of political intrigues, dramatic deals and rumours, it seems fitting that their most-anticipated pop-up bar of the summer is based around a book and a show that deals with much the same things; Game of Thrones.
The pop-up will help build hype for the show’s much-anticipated summer return on 16 July. It occupies a huge space – spanning nearly 3000 square feet in total – and there are plenty of themed rooms fan can enjoy and wander through, drink in hand.
Visitors can pledge allegiance to their favourite houses in the Red Keep or try and spot faces in the House of Black and White, before visiting Daenerys’ dragons in Mereen. As well as an armory, no Game of Thrones bar would be complete without its very own Iron Throne. The atmospheric show soundtrack will also be playing throughout.
A lot of effort has gone into their cocktail list, which references everything from Milk of the Poppy (dark rum and clarified milk) and the Imps Delight (Amaro and cola syrup) to The North Remembers, a scotch-based drink served in a horn-shaped tankard in true fantasy style. If beer is more your style, the official Game of Thrones beer, Bend the Knee will also be available on draft. There doesn’t seem to be any plans in place to serve the official Game of Thrones wine however.
The CEO of Drink Company, the team behind the project, calls the bar a “love letter to the Seven Kingdoms and we can’t wait to share it with fellow fans.” The team are such big fans that the bar will actually be closed at 7pm every Sunday so staff can get a chance to watch the episode when it airs later that night on HBO.
The Washington DC Game of Thrones pop-up bar will be open until 27 August. If that’s a bit too far away for you, Edinburgh’s enormously successful Blood and Wine pop-up will be running again from 4 July until the end of August to coincide with the new season.
