As part of what looks like an amazing trip around Asia, Alex and Sebastiaan of travel blog Lost With Purpose recently stopped off in the Indian city of Jodhpur. And as you can tell from these stunning images, the famous ‘Blue City’ is well worth a visit.
“This was our first time in Jodhpur”, the pair tell Lonely Planet. “We heard stories of how pretty the city was, and they were not exaggerated. Parts of the city were more vibrant than anything we’d seen before. We were mostly surprised though about how little hassle there was for it being a touristy city. Unlike other places in Rajasthan, Jodhpur has a far more chilled vibe. A smile doesn’t imply a sales pitch is coming. Locals are happy to sit and chat.”
Moving through the colourful city was often a mesmerising experience for Alex, as she later reflected in their blog; “I meandered slowly through Jodhpur’s lanes, past houses and shops in alleyways punctuated with blue. Eye peering through my camera, I was happily oblivious to the chaos around me.”
Friendly local characters, sights, sounds and smells all came together to enhance their experience of this magical city. “India is a vibrant mash-up of cultures and languages, smells and flavours, history and modernisation. Sometimes it’s charmingly curious, other times it’s intensely maddening! Really, it can hardly be done justice in words, as its diversity is something that has to be experienced.”
Unsurprisingly, it’s a place they’re keen to keep exploring. “We’ve just traveled through Nagaland and moved on to Manipur”, they tell us, “both states in the northeast of India. We’ll stay in this region until the monsoon rain becomes unbearable, then we’ll move up to Nepal and the northern states of India.”
