This Austin bakery makes adorable tiny pies that are the size of cupcakes

A family bakery in Austin, Texas, is making the cutest tiny handheld pies, and the idea came from the owner Amanda Bates’ small son.

Pie was a standard dessert at family dinners, and Amanda’s son said one day that he wanted to take a piece to school. She explained to him that it would get too messy, and he asked her why she didn’t make something that would fit in his hand?

Amanda thought about it and the idea for tiny pies was born. She describes them as small pies that are big on taste and they have become a huge hit.

Tiny Pies look like cupcakes, and they are made from old family recipes with natural ingredients sourced from local farms. Amanda says that that they are just like grandma used to make, only much smaller.

They are baked from scratch daily from a seasonal menu, including Valentine’s Day and Easter. Part of the charm is that they are handmade so every pie looks a little different.

Fans pictured enjoying the pies include actor Kyle McLachlan, aka Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks and Trey McDougal in Sex and the City.

It certainly seems like Austin might just be the place to head to if you’re feeling in the mood for a little piece of pie.
