Harry Potter fans may not be able to chase real Chocolate Frogs or levitate after popping a few Fizzing Whizzbees, but Butterbeer ice cream is now a magical reality. Yuengling’s Ice Cream just released their latest flavor, inspired by the boy wizard’s favorite drink and available at grocery stores across the United States.
The creamy concoction is a mix of buttercream and butterscotch ice creams, swirled with a ribbon of butterscotch. “It seems like everyone has their own take on Butterbeer and how to make it, but Yuengling’s Ice Cream wanted to put our own spin on it,” said president of the company David Yuengling. “It’s best enjoyed straight from the container. Decadence in a dish.”
Established in 1829, the Pennsylvania-based company is America’s oldest brewery — best known for their Yuengling lager — but launched a dairy business in the 1920s when Prohibition temporarily thwarted alcohol sales. In 1985 Yuengling’s Ice Cream ceased production, then reintroduced the brand in 2014.
Butterbeer joins both classic and offbeat flavors like Black and Tan (a mix of Belgian chocolate and Salted Caramel ice creams), Root Beer Float, and Teaberry – a regional minty taste with a signature pink hue. Luckily for both Potter and ice cream fans of all ages, the entire 18-flavor lineup is alcohol-free.

After J.K. Rowling first introduced Butterbeer in her wildly popular book series, fans eager to taste the brew the author described as “a little bit like less sickly butterscotch” had to rely on homemade recipes or head to Florida’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter. (The theme park inside of Universal Orlando Resort offers Butterbeer as both hot and cold beverages, as well as a soft serve ice cream.) But now that Yuengling’s is churning out pints of the buttery dessert, Potterheads around the country can enjoy a few scoops with their next movie marathon. Accio spoon!
