The famous Jameson Distillery Bow Street in Smithfield, Dublin has re-opened with a brand new look, following an €11 million investment.
As well as its revamped appearance, the distillery has introduced three new fully-guided tours for whiskey fans. The first is the ‘The Bow St. Experience’ tasting tour, which focuses on the stories, heritage and on-going evolution of the brand, while ‘The Whiskey Makers’ and ‘The Whiskey Shakers’ experiences provide in-depth whiskey and cocktail masterclasses, both including the opportunity to sample whiskey straight from a cask in the distillery’s new live maturation house.
The move is thought to add to Ireland’s growing number of visitors interested in whiskey tourism. “Each year, over 600,000 tourists pass through Irish whiskey visitor centres to experience first-hand the heritage behind this time-honoured spirit and hear the stories of established and emerging distilleries. The Irish Whiskey Tourism Strategy aims to treble this figure to 1.9 million visitors by 2025 and Jameson Distillery Bow St. will undoubtedly play a central role in delivering on this vision,” said Paschal Donohoe, Ireland’s Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform. February saw Diageo, the owners of the Guinness brand, announcing that a new whiskey brand called Roe & Co would be launched this month, with a dedicated distillery due to be constructed within the next few years.
Jameson has had a presence at Bow Street since 1780, and the Old Jameson Distillery has welcomed over four million visitors from all over the world since opening its doors in 1997.
