This West Virginia resort is offering free cabin stays in exchange for assisting with their trail clean-up

A resort in West Virginia is offering a free two-night stay in a mountain cabin plus the use of mountain bikes for anyone willing to help with their spring trail maintenance.

Located in Oak Hill, the Ace Adventure Resort’s, “Sweat Equity” programme is designed to entice volunteers to get involved in preparing the resort’s extensive trail system along the New River Gorge for the upcoming season. Taking place on April 21st and 22nd, workers are asked to arrive on the Friday night of April 20th in preparation for working the hours of 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 1pm on Sunday. A deli lunch is provided on the Saturday, while resort dining venues will be open across the weekend. Downtime hours can be spent enjoying the 1,500 wooded acres surrounding the resort, while the furnished cabins that volunteers will stay in come complete with satellite TV, kitchenettes and private hot tubs.

Upcoming events this season that will benefit from the trail clean-up include the Wonderland Mountain Challenge on May 27th, a 10-kilometre run through the mountains and scenic rock outcrops followed by a burrito buffet, as well as the fourth annual Mountain Music Festival on June 1st to 3rd. There is limited space available for the trail clean-up event, and volunteers are asked to pack suitable footwear, rain jackets, layered clothes, work gloves and safety goggles.
