A new resort in the Baja Peninsula in Mexico is offering the most expensive taco in the world, with the ultra-decadent dish costing a whopping $25,000.
Available from the Frida restaurant at Grand Velas Los Cabos Resort, the taco features langoustine, beluga caviar, Kobe beef and truffle brie cheese served in a gold flake-infused tortilla and topped with even more gold flake. A specially crafted salsa made from morita chili peppers tops the dish, while the tacos can be accompanied by a hand-crafted white gold and pure platinum bottle of .925 Pasión Azteca Ultra Premium Añejo, the world’s most expensive tequila, for an additional $150,000.
The over-the-top dish was created by the resort’s Executive Chef Juan Licerio Alcala who originates from Durango, Mexico. “I created the taco by searching for the most premium products from Mexico and combining them with the most expensive ingredients found around the globe. The taco is just the first of such wow experiences we will be rolling out in the coming months at the resort. An over-the-top wine lovers getaway for millionaires that takes guests via private jet to the bodega in Ensenada where Velas Resorts buys its Mexican wines, Nightcap Dessert Pairings in the Presidential Suites, and a Craft Beer Pop-Up are also planned,” he said.
While the taco is certainly a lavish choice for the majority of travellers, the resort also features more affordable dishes across its five different restaurants. Located between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, the $150 million beachfront resort features 304 ocean view suites with private terraces. The resort also boasts a spa with 16 treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy facility, as well as three pools and a fitness centre with personal trainers.
