Barbie fans, both young and old, will be thrilled with this Spanish exhibition, which is dedicated to the iconic doll that has captured hearts around the globe.
The exhibition at Fundacion Canal in Madrid is called Barbie: Más allá de la Muñeca (Barbie: More Than Just the Doll).
It has 438 pieces, which are separated into eight themed sections to show different facets of the popular doll.
Ever since Barbie came on the market in 1959 her motto, “I can be” inspired young girls to imagine themselves doing what they wanted in life and achieving their dreams.
She has always espoused values of gender equality, racial integration, respect for diversity, as well as family, culture, and friendship.
The first section of the exhibition, Barbie Evolution, shows how Barbie has changed over the years, and it includes a variety of skin tones, cultural ethnicities and styles.
Her most prominent accessory was her boyfriend Ken, of course, but Barbie’s appeal never hinged on her relationship with a man. He is seen in the Barbie’s Family section of the exhibition, along with junior dolls, Midge and Stacie.
Barbie has always had an amazing wardrobe and the coolest accessories over the years, and Barbie: From Model to Fashionista, showcases how her style has evolved over more than half a century.
There are also Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding versions of the dolls, and in Barbie Around the World, we get to see her as more than 50 different nationalities.
Barbie: Más allá de la Muñeca runs at Fundacion Canal until 2 May, 2017, and information can be found here.
