Hollywood actor Matt Damon wants to become a lighthouse keeper in Ireland

While it sounds like a role straight out of a Hollywood script, actor Matt Damon has revealed that he would like to become a lighthouse keeper in Ireland in real life.

The 46-year-old actor was smitten by the Wild Atlantic Way on the west coast of the country when he travelled with his family from Cork to Galway two years ago. He was accompanied by his wife Luciana Barroso and their daughters Isabella (10), Gia (8) and Stella (6).

The holiday made him want to purchase a historical lighthouse on the rugged coast, and he says it’s his dream to become its keeper. The Jason Bourne star admits that he’d have to run the idea past his wife first, but could picture himself in this new role.

“How awesome would that be?” he said, speaking to the Irish Sun. “Watching the Atlantic crashing over the Irish cliffs, the rain coming down, the grey skies. I love the weather. That whole geographical area, from Cork to Kerry, Galway, that environment is like nowhere, it’s good for the health. All that air. I just have this image, this dream of sitting atop of the lighthouse, looking out to sea, and how beautiful and peaceful that must be.”

“I don’t know if you can buy those, wouldn’t they be State-owned?” he added. “If you could, I’d do it.”
