Valentine’s Day is here and many travellers have planned a trip to celebrate the holiday of love with their significant other, or a fun getaway with friends and family.
Airbnb has released the top trending destinations for the holiday, revealing that this year’s Valentine’s Day travellers are ‘gravitating towards sun, surf and snow’. Bookings for Valentine’s Day week, between 11 and 17 February, have increased 86% over 2016. And while Valentine’s Day is popular with couples, one-third of the total bookings for the week are for groups of more than two.
Places like Savoy, France – a top ski destination – more than tripled in bookings over last year. Other popular spots were warm and sunny locations like Puerto Vallarta, Mexico or Phuket, Thailand. Here are some notable trending destinations for Valentine’s Day week, based on increases in guest arrivals over 2016:

Cape Town, South Africa – 282% growth
Okinawa, Japan – 262% growth
Reykjavik, Iceland – 254% growth
Savoy, France – 219% growth
Mexico City, Mexico – 217% growth
Summit County, Colorado – 207% growth
Seville, Spain – 205% growth
Phuket, Thailand – 196% growth
Lisbon, Portugal – 192% growth
