Known as The Beach, the ball pit is currently an attraction at the Sydney Festival, and is located at Barangaroo Reserve.
Designed like a beach with deck chairs, the “sea” was formed by pouring over a million recyclable polyethylene balls into a 200-foot basin, which has a sloped entrance and varying depths up to three feet.
Visitors have enjoyed ‘swimming’ in the sea of balls, and it has attracted adults and children alike to let their hair down and have fun.
For those who don’t want to hang with the kids, there’s an option for adults to enjoy 18+ only sessions at the ball pit beach on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The Beach is the creation of Snarkitecture, a New York-based art and architecture collaborative practice. They wanted to create a piece of art that people of every age could enjoy.
The Beach is an installation that travels to various venues, and it has already been seen in action at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Ticket prices for the ball pit beach in Sydney range from free for regular entry, to $15 for evening or early entry tickets. For further information, visit Sydney Festival.
