Following the advent of Amsterdam’s avocado bun, it was only going to be a matter of time before the Dutch capital created an avocado-themed restaurant. Step forward The Avocado Show, a brand new eatery that will open in February 2017 and will only serve meals containing the superfood.
Dreamed up by gourmands Ron Simpson, Jaimie van Heije and Julien Zaal, the café will open at Daniel Stalpertstraat 61 in the De Pijp area of the city and will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. Items on the menu will include avocado chocolate smoothies, the avocado bun and other inventive twists.
Speaking with the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper, the founders said: “The possibilities are endless. Our only rule is that the dishes need to contain the green super fruit in one way or another.”
However, the Avocado Show isn’t the world’s first all-avocado restaurant. Both London and Athens have cafes that offer something similar. The avocado bun, which was originally thought up by a food stylist in Amsterdam, was among a slew of crazy food trends in 2016 which included Pokémon burgers from Sydney, rainbow cheese toasties from Hong Kong, river rat burgers from Russia and gold leaf ice-cream from Japan and Malaysia.
