This man checked in for his flight at Malawi airport in nothing but Speedos and flip-flops

A South African passenger flying from Malawi raised fellow passengers’ eyebrows and was almost refused boarding as he was only wearing his swim uniform of Speedos and flip-flops.

The underdressed Greig Bannatyne rocked up to the security desk to catch his South African Airways flight, following his trip to Malawi to participate in a charity swim. He explained to officials that he had flown there with his charity swim team, but had forgotten to bring a change of clothes for the flight home.

Greig is a member of the Mad Swimmers, who donate money raised from their events and stunts to charity. His teammates promised to donate money themselves if he agreed to fly home wearing his South African-branded swimming gear, but the airport security team was unimpressed.

As he didn’t have official papers validating his charitable effort, the airport officials advised Greig that he couldn’t board the fight without clothes. However, after speaking to him, they relented and agreed to let him fly. Greig’s heroic, and presumably chilly endeavour, earned more than R35000 or £2000 in donations.
