An innovative new suitcase that transforms into a closet on wheels has gone on the market, aimed at fashion conscious travellers that may be looking for some extra organisational space while on the move.

Initially launched on Kickstarter last year, the ShelfPack suitcase sets itself apart from other travel bags due to clever design elements that enable telescoping arms to fold out and lock into place, transforming the inner chamber into a spacious shelving unit. A selection of three front pockets also allow for further storage and organisation. Aimed at business travellers, families and campers, the ShelfPack measures 14 X 18 X 26 inches, with the arms reaching 42 inches high when fully extended. The shell is made from ballistic material in order to make it hard-wearing, and wheels on the bottom make it easily portable.

Designed by software engineer Ken McKaba, the idea for the ShelfPack suitcase came to him after he spent several years travelling for business. “While digging through my luggage, I envisioned shelves that would keep my stuff organised and do away with rummaging and packing and unpacking my entire suitcase at every stop,” Ken said. He began experimenting with designs by dismantling parts of old luggage and trying different variations of shelves. Ken then came up with several prototypes before eventually finding a manufacturing partner with knowledge of the industry to help launch the final designs.

The Shelfpack was backed successfully on Kickstarter and it now available to purchase at a price of $350.
