Crowds gathered in Shenzen in Guangdong Province, China last weekend for the Color Run 2016, a series of annual events that see people all over the world organising and hosting vibrant celebrations of happiness and community.
Founded in 2011, the Color Run is described by the organisers as, “the happiest 5 k on the planet”, and sees events in over 200 cities and 40 countries every year. The events see crowds gathering to run, as well as throwing colourful powder that symbolises happiness and the community spirit. With this year making it the fifth anniversary of the global project, last weekend saw people at Shenzen Universiade Sports Center in China participating in one of the events as part of the Tropicolor World Tour 2016. This year, participants can also experience new courses where they will be bathed in tropical colours and island scents throughout the run.
Participants received limited edition race t-shirts, finisher’s medals, printed ribbons and embroidered headbands, while a special Finish Festival featuring music, dancing and mass colour throwing was planned after the race. Color Runs see participants starting the race in a white t-shirt, while being doused throughout the course, eventually finishing in a vibrant splash of multi-colours. The events are focused on improving health and wellness and are open for anyone to enter. Since it began, the Color Run has donated over $4 million to charity.
More Color Run events are due to take place throughout the year, with the next ones planned for California, Florida and Texas. More information about the events is available on the Color Run website.
