An Australian family seeking some adventure got more than they bargained for recently when a curious kangaroo invaded their camper van in search of snacks.
A hilarious video shared by the family shows the Dad, Justin, pitting his wits against the stubborn animal, who eventually leaves after being bribed with an apple (and a slight nudge out the door). However, the intrepid invader must have hopped off and told her mates about the prospects, as she returns to the scene with a gang of hungry kangaroos.
The close encounter occurred at Bream Beach Caravan Park near Jervis Bay in New South Wales, where the caretaker of the park informed the family of the less than shy animals living in the area. “He told us that the kangaroos pretty much make the caravan park their home, coming and going as they please. He added that only one of them had a name, called Sally, as she had a white nose and that’s the only way they can identify her. Then by chance, we noticed that the one that jumped into the van had a white nose,” Mum Bec told Lonely Planet News. The video shows a very curious Sally who seems reluctant to leave the caravan. “I think she was scared of jumping out the doorway. We enticed her out with a piece of apple as we didn’t know how else to get her out. She eventually hopped out with a bit of a push and all was well. She was a lovely animal and at no stage did I feel worried that she would hurt me or my family. It was funny the next day because at the same time that sally had visited the day before, there was a line-up of her mates looking like they wanted to come in as well.”
The video has since gone viral, having been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. A run in with some rambunctious roos is just one part of the adventure for the family, who have a website documenting their travels around Australia in a campervan. It features tips and interest pages drawn from their experiences traveling with their children over the period of a year. More information on Bed and Justin’s adventures is available on their website, Trip in a Van.
