This incredible drone video of Albania shows the spectacular landscape of the country as you’ve never seen it before; and will make you want to book those flights instantly.
Filmmaker John Broadbean travelled to Albania in May for nine days to film some of the landscape for Untravelled Paths and was blown away by what he saw. “I was surprised a lot about Albania” he told Lonely Planet. “The incredible beauty of it, the endless mountain ranges, actually how sparse it was in most places and how amazing the food was everywhere you went!”
Albania’s slow recovery from communism means huge portions of the country are still unspoiled, although John says there was certainly enough to keep him occupied. “It was one of the most action-packed weeks of my life and I still needed much more time there. Honestly one of the best places I’ve ever visited in the world (and I’ve travelled a lot).”
Albania has been working on major tourist initiatives for the last couple of years and a spotlight has been shone on the country’s totalitarian past. Cold War attractions like undergound bunkers have opened to the public and a museum exploring the history of the secret police is in the works.
Earlier this year the government announced it planned to develop birdwatching tours in the Adriatic Wetlands where wildlife numbers have seen a significant improvement since a ban on hunting came into effect in 2014.
