There was a time when people went on holidays to pig out and forget all about their diet and exercise regimens. And while that may still be true of many … for others a break would not be a break unless they got to keep up their healthy lifestyle.
The popularity of “wellness” hotels is such that a major hotel chain has just opened its fourth location for the ever-growing army of guests determined to keep fit and eat healthy on their travels. Rooms at the new Brooklyn EVEN Hotel feature yoga mats, a yoga block, an exercise ball, and a built-in fitness wall with resistance bands.

Guests can also watch any one of seventeen customised exercise videos so that they can get a useful training session in, all from the comfort of their room. The hotel has a two-level athletic studio with spin and yoga classes available for those with a little bit more time on their hands.
Group runs to the Brooklyn Bridge Park are also organised for guests of the 202-bedroom hotel and are led by the hotel’s “chief wellness officer”. Food – healthy of course – is available at the Cork and Kale Market and Bar with a menu including yoghurt bowls with house-made granola, a black kale salad, and all-natural burgers.

On the drinks menu are a range of organic and natural offerings, along with freshly-squeezed orange juice, and free filtered water available throughout the hotel. Rooms are also specially designed for mobile working with movable desks and a stand-up desk option for those who wish to burn calories while beavering away.

The new Brooklyn Hotel is the fourth of IHG’s special wellness hotels with another in Manhattan, and two more in Rockville, Maryland, and Norwalk, Connecticut. Seven more are planned including another in New York, along with new hotels in Omaha, Seattle, Eugene, Miami, Houston, and Pittsburgh.
