Diners will be spoilt for choice at Chicago’s latest new dining choice, the Revival Food Hall, and some are predicting that it marks the beginning of a dining trend that could spread throughout the US.
When it opened on Wednesday, tourists and locals alike stood in line to get in the doors of the 24,000-square-foot space. It has 15 fast-casual stalls from a mixture of the Windy City’s favourite neighbourhood restaurants and some new quick-serve concepts debuting from acclaimed Chicago chefs.
While food courts are a common feature of shopping centres, this type of fast-casual but high-quality food hall is relatively rare in the United States. The new ‘grab-and-go’ eaterie is located on the ground floor of the National Building on Clark Street, which was designed by famed Chicago architect Daniel Burnham in 1907. The decor includes smoky mirrored columns, re-purposed tables, globed lights and silver-tipped bulbs, and it includes a 40-seater communal dining table.
Each independent participating restaurant has a stand selling their specialities, and diners can select where to sit amongst a colourful and eclectic mix of furniture and decorations after acquiring their food. You’d never get bored with the menu as the vendors include popular local food places such as Smoque BBQ, The Fat Shallot and Black Dog Gelato, and they cater for all tastes.
It is expected that the venue will appeal to tourists, as they will be able to sample the best in local cuisine in one location. The food hall will open from 7am to 7pm daily and the full list of vendors is available here.
