Avid Pokemon Go players should consider spending their next vacation in New York, as the city is home to nine of the 10 most Pokemon-heavy hotels.
As the augmented reality game continues to be a massive phenomenon, Hotels.com has released research stating that New York is home to hotels with the highest concentration of Pokestops and ‘gyms’ within or near the hotel property. The top hotel in the US for Pokemon Go fans is the Towers at Lotte New York Palace, which has 11 Pokestops or gyms within 500 feet and 231 more within 1.25 miles, followed by Apartment 804 and the St. Regis New York. The only hotel outside of New York to make the top 10 was the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. Worldwide, hotels.com found the best hotels to find Pokemon are the Doha Marriott Hotel in Qatar, followed by the Mantra 2 Hotel in Sydney and Pestana Vintage Porto in Portugal.
The website surveyed millennial travellers based in the US and found that 79% said they plan to play Pokemon Go while on their next vacation, and 48% would consider heading somewhere new due to the game. Most Americans believe that they will find the creatures in public parks, at landmarks or at shopping malls. Those who play the game say they expect they will spend two to three hours playing the game on their next vacation, and 41% think they will see more of a new destination while looking for Pokemon.
As the game encourages players to get out and explore different cities, it has already become intertwined with travel, with Pokemon-themed tours and more. Tourism groups around the world have aimed to draw in visitors with the lure of catching the digital monsters.
