Food fads have taken on an outrageous new twist with the creation of the world’s most expensive cronut – the Luxury Zebra Cro – as designed by Dum Dum Donutterie.
The hybrid has become something of a craze as it crosses a doughnut with a croissant. A new version called the ‘Luxury Zebra Cro’ is now available through Just Eat, the food delivery service at a cost of £1,500. Even the crumbs cost money in this presentation, making it one of the world’s most expensive foods. Containing luxury ingredients such as Cristal rosé champagne caviar, gold leaf, French delicacy Normandy butter and Iranian saffron-infused butter croissant dough. It also stirs in powdered Nutella together with the dearest Amedei Potcelana chocolate that can be found anywhere in the world.
Paul Hurley, the founder of the company making the ‘Luxury Zebra Cro’ said he has spent months experimenting with a combination of flavours and specially sourced ingredients. He declared that following the testing, he is now satisfied that he has created “the most luxurious cro I’ve tasted.” Cronuts first came into vogue three years ago which may mean some discerning palates find this culinary delight out of date.
The Daily Telegraph claims that some people now consider that rainbow bagels have become the ‘new Cronut.’ They were invented in the USA before finding their way across the Atlantic to British cities like London and Manchester. The bagels, originally from the Bagel Store in New York, are dyed with the full range of rainbow colours, have Nutella, rainbow sprinkles, candyfloss, cream cheese or cake mix filled with even more sprinkles spread all over them. Some even go for the full monty of all of the above in one bagel.
The cronut is for a limited period exclusively on Just-Eat.co.uk.
