We all love our comfort, so whether you’re waiting for a bus in Cambodia, lounging on a beach in Hawaii or trekking through a jungle in Brazil, the BillowBag may just be the perfect way to get your feet up while travelling.
The BillowBag is an inflatable lounger produced by Ben McDonald (32) from Dublin, Ireland, and Alan Wyman (31) who is based in New Jersey, USA. They are two avid travellers, and based on their own experiences, they wanted to offer something that could be used for relaxation, is easier to set up than a hammock, is more comfortable than a sleeping bag and can be used absolutely anywhere. “We wanted to design something that appealed to the globetrotting community,” say Alan and Ben. “There may be times when you’ll find yourself very uncomfortable on a floor constructing a make-shift bed of sorts, maybe on the top of a mountain where there are no park benches, or in an airport when on a budget.”
Given how important it is to travel light these days, the BillowBag only weighs about 1kg and is two metres long when inflated. It rolls up into a pouch with a drawstring and shoulder strap, and can support a weight of up to 220kg. No pump or heavy blowing is required, as you simply allow the air to billow in and compress it to the desired size. It is made from a rip-stop nylon material that is very durable.
“The feedback from people has been amazing,” say Alan and Ben. “People are using BillowBags as a travel essential, and it is also the ultimate festival must-have, both for sleeping on and for having the best seat at the main stage. There is also no more panic rushing to put your towel on sunbeds when abroad or paying for a bed when hitting the beach.”
Ben and Alan started producing the BillowBag earlier this year, and are striving to improve, evolve and expand the range. Ben is the designer and he is working on some great new designs that the duo are hugely excited about bringing to the market. For those in the USA or Canada, the BillowBag retails at $59.95 and is available from www.BillowBag.com. For customers from Ireland or the UK, it’s €54.95 from www.BillowBag.ie.
