Young British people take a bucket list holiday every two years according to new survey

The notion that the bucket list holiday is the preserve of the older traveller has been sent packing with the revelation that 18-34 year olds are far more likely to take off on one of those trips of lifetime than their parents or grandparents.

And while younger travellers have no plans to ‘kick the bucket’ just yet, they are still keen to enjoy bucket list travel adventures as early and as often as possible.

There’s a lot of world to see out there and this miss-nothing generation is making sure to take full advantage of those wonderful opportunities, according to the results of a new survey on holiday plans and habits among British holidaymakers.

“The average Briton takes a bucket-list holiday once every three years, rising to more than once every couple of years amongst 18-34 year olds,” according to BDRC Continental, the market research group that carried out the survey. On the other hand, the typical bucket-list demographic, the over-55s, embark on that trip of a lifetime just once every five years or so, the research found.

Looking at holiday trends for 2016, the survey found that contrary to popular opinion, which suggests older people fulfilling lifelong travel ambitions before it is too late favour these trips, it turns out that this group takes fewer such holidays than any other age cohort. According to the Holiday Trends Report 2016, the inclination of younger holidaymakers towards the bucket list is linked closely to the rise in their willingness to try out new places and experiences. “The desire for unique experiences expressed by this group is growing”, says BDRC Continental. The 18-34 year olds were also found to be significantly more likely to engage with marketing information, particularly provided through social media, than the older holidaymaker.
