Is this the dream job for bacon lovers? Munch your way across the US as a freelance bacon critic

Being paid to eat bacon has now become a very real thing and an actual job in America. Bacon lovers across the United States can rejoice as a new online site is on the hunt for a freelance ‘Bacon Critic’ and unbelievably, it’s a paid position.

Travelling or backpacking across America and sampling crispy strips of bacon along your way?  Well then this is potentially your dream job with new website ‘Extra Crispy’, which is dedicated solely to writing about and documenting the most important meal of the day- breakfast.

The online publication, which comes from Time Inc, is seeking a freelance writer to cover their ‘bacon beat’ that will eventually be required to decide ‘which bacon is the best in the country’ after a three month search.

The bacon critic post entails the responsibility of ‘researching, writing about, obsessing over, and critiquing bacon’.

And, Extra Crispy say the want their bacon expert to be ‘opinionated and thorough in his or her research’.

‘Other qualifications include serious writing chops, an unmistakable voice, a sense of adventure, and an insatiable hunger—for bacon.’

To be in with a chance of securing the coveted job, bacon lovers must submit an essay of 600 words detailing their favourite bacon memory.

Along with the necessary skills required, applicants must enjoy indulging in ‘strips of cured pork belly*, aka bacon’, as well as having ‘strong feelings about what makes good bacon good and bad bacon bad’ and the ability to ‘string words into sentences’.

Bacon fans have expressed their delight at the position, with many describing it as a ‘dream job’.

‘Never let anyone tell you you can’t live your dream.  There’s now a job for a ‘freelance bacon critic,’ one woman wrote on Twitter.  While another said she thinks she has ‘found her calling’.
