Disney fans, get excited – Frozen The Musical is opening this Friday in the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim. It will see the hit 2013 animated film transformed into a spectacular stage show complete with costumes, sets, special effects and of course the beloved musical score. It will replace the Aladdin show that ran there for 13 years and nearly 14,000 shows.
At 45 minutes long, the musical features music by the movie’s Oscar-winning songwriting team of spouses, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. Some of the numbers that were originally solos or duets have been turned into big productions featuring lots of performers singing and dancing, and there are plenty of surprises in store for big and little kids alike.
Throughout the theatre, aurora borealis curtains surround the audience to suggest landscapes and set the mood throughout the show, according to the Los Angeles Times.
This will be bigger than your average theme-park show too, with a 2200-square-foot LED video wall forming the backdrop to the stage, moving props and a gigantic snowflake chandelier.
A full-length Frozen musical will be coming to Broadway in 2018, but there’s no word yet whether the original Elsa, Broadway star Idina Menzel, will be reprising the role.
