Visitors to Universal Studios Hollywood will soon be able to run away from zombies at a new Walking Dead-themed attraction. But for anyone who can’t wait until July to rub shoulders with the dead, a new video provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the upcoming attraction.
Universal Studios announced earlier this year that it would open a new permanent attraction based on the TV show, which centres on survivors in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. The attraction is set to combine make-up effects, animatronic ‘walkers’, detailed set designs and recognizable prop replicas from the show to create a “realistic environment” of the zombie apocalypse. John Murdy, creative director at Universal Studios Hollywood, says in the video that they are working with the show’s producer, Greg Nicotero, which allows them to create authentic props for the attraction.
Nicotero, the director, executive producer, and special effects and make-up supervisor of the show, says the attraction provides a “great opportunity to take the Walking Dead out of the studio, off the sound stage, and put it at the attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood, where guests can come face-to-face with the Walking Dead”. The new attraction will be housed in a custom-built structure and is set to open on 4 July in Los Angeles.
