An Italian yachtmaker has come up with a new concept for an environmentally friendly, solar-powered floating house that looks more like a UFO than a home.
Jet Capsule’s design is even known as the UFO – Unidentified Floating Object – and consists of a pod structure that sits above but also drops beneath the surface of the water. It comes complete with a standing platform for when you need to emerge from the waves, as well as a motor so those living on board can move the capsule on as they need to.
The capsule combines a living area and kitchen in the 20 square metre upstairs, with a bedroom and bathroom below, set out over a space 12.5 metres in diameter. On the lower level there’s also a single large window for viewing the marine life below.
There’s also an elastic anchor system that keeps the vessel steady even in rougher seas, with an onboard water generator able to turn rain or seawater into drinking water, while the deck also has space for a vegetable garden for inhabitants to grow some of their own food. The creators are currently said to be looking for investment in order to build the first working prototype of the UFO, before looking into producing the real thing – if viable – for around £139,000.
