Cool pool to take over Rockefeller Plaza in latest large-scale installation

New York’s Rockefeller Plaza is to host an enormous ear for the next few months, namely Van Gogh’s Ear, a sculpture made by artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset.

The sculpture was installed on Wednesday at the Rockefeller Plaza on 5th Avenue, and appears to be a swimming pool shaped like Van Gogh’s ear. It’s blue on the inside and enamel on the outside, and has been presented so as to look like it’s on the floor of an upscale showroom, on a pedestal several feet off the ground.

The sculpture was set in place by the Public Art Fund, an initiative that seeks to fund and support contemporary artwork in public spaces.
