BART metro system gets a makeover in San Francisco Bay Area

The perpetual complaint of many public transport-using Bay Area residents is that BART, the local metro system, is having a midlife crisis now it’s in its mid-40s (the first passenger train ran in 1972). Authorities have recognized the problem though and are giving the trains a makeover.

The full fleet of 775 new cars won’t be completely rolled out until 2021 but the first ten will be up and running by the end of this year, bringing welcome relief for passengers lucky enough to ride in one of the new trains after years travelling in grubby, old-fashioned carriages.
