Robots have been given the boot after failing as waiters and waitresses at a number of restaurants in China.
Over the last couple of years, restaurants around the country began staffing robots as cheaper alternatives to human employees. However, restaurant owners noticed that robots couldn’t complete some essential tasks, such as serving soup or pouring water. Despite being trendy when they first appeared, many robot restaurants around China have since closed down, some within only six months after opening. The last robot restaurant in the southern city of Guangzhou this week removed its robot staff because they purportedly broke down too often and became a liability.
