The train is India’s first semi high-speed train, able to run at a maximum speed of 160kmph, and will connect Nizammuddin railway station in Delhi with Agra, which is home to popular monuments like the Taj Mahal. Currently, train rides between the cities can take close to three hours. The train took its first run on 5 April and according to the Ministry of Railways, the launch “heralds a new era of high speed rail travel in India”.

With the launch of the new train, the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation has also created different guided tour packages for Agra that work with the timetable of the train. There is a one-day package that includes visits to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, and a two-day package that includes an overnight stay in Agra.

The Gatimaan Express will run every day but Friday. It also has added features like catering, free Wi-Fi and an entertainment system.
