Marseille sees start of €5 million project with Europe's first solar energy road

The first few metres of Europe’s first solar panel-lined road have been laid in Marseille in a move to boost France’s energy sustainability.

It’s the start of a five million euro project to tackle climate change, which was conceived at Paris’ Climate Change Conference in 2015. Over the next few years 1000km of the ultra-thin panels will be laid across the country’s roads. One kilometre of the solar road is estimated to provide enough energy for 5,000 people.
